HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER PROGRAM

NOTE: THE WAITING LIST FOR THIS PROGRAM IS CLOSED

The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV)  Program is a federally funded government program assisting very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled to choose and lease decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market.     Funds for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program are received by the Housing Authorities from the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and administered by local housing authority agencies.

When you reach the top of the waiting list you are notified by Certified Mail/Return Receipt Requested of an appointment date and given a list of documents the Housing Authority requires in order to determine your eligibility for rental assistance.    Upon your eligibility for assistance you are issued a voucher to locate an affordable apartment unit, which may include your current residence.    Rental units must meet minimum standards of health and safety, as determined by the PHA.

A housing subsidy is paid to the landlord directly by the PHA on behalf of the participating family. The family then pays the difference between the actual rent charged by the landlord and the amount subsidized by the program.

Due to the large number of people waiting for Assistance, the Waiting List for this Program is Closed. We will post a notice on our website when we anticipate accepting New Applications.
